This article is about our recent experience hosting an international intern.
We had the pleasure of welcoming Tobi-san from Nigeria to our company.
The Significance of Hosting an International Internship
There were several reasons why we chose to host Tobi-san as an international intern:
- To foster diversity within our company by exposing ourselves to different perspectives from overseas.
- To bring new energy and fresh ideas to our team, especially since our company sees little turnover.
On the other hand, Tobi-san shared his own reasons for choosing Kawatatec:
- He wanted to gain knowledge from a country with strengths different from his own in order to become a “complete” engineer.
- He wished to broaden his possibilities and outlook by experiencing foreign business practices, rules, etiquette, and technology.
When I heard this, I was truly impressed.
It reminded me to keep my own aspirations high and stay motivated in my work.
Tobi-san is a very friendly person and quickly became part of the Kawatatec team.
He also helped me with my tasks, such as preparing internship programs for Japanese students.
Experiences Outside of Work
Since Tobi-san came all the way to Japan, we wanted to make sure he experienced as much of the culture as possible.
We visited temples together in Nara and enjoyed takoyaki in Osaka.
We even went ice skating—Tobi-san’s first time on the ice!

Reflections on Hosting an International Intern
This was Kawatatec’s first time hosting an international intern, and thanks to Tobi-san’s cheerful and open personality, the experience was extremely enjoyable.
His presence brought a brighter atmosphere to our workplace, and personally, I also improved my English skills through our communication.
Tobi-san worked on developing a torque measurement device, which measures rotational force.
His work was successful and made a direct contribution to our company’s growth, making this internship truly meaningful for both sides.
Kawatatec will continue to actively seek opportunities like this in the future.
Thank you, Tobi-san! ⭐
